CAIRO, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met here on Friday with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, during which the two sides stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation across various fields.
The two sides hailed the positive momentum in bilateral relations, particularly in implementing and expanding key Russian projects in Egypt, including the Dabaa nuclear energy plant, and a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, and vowed to boost cooperation in tourism by increasing direct flights between the two countries, read a statement from the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
During the talks, Abdelatty outlined promising investment opportunities in Egypt, highlighting the nation's plans for industrial localization and technology transfer. He emphasized Egypt's potential in energy, tourism, transportation, and logistics to further deepen trade and economic ties.
Regional developments and ways to ease tensions were also addressed in the meeting, according to the statement.
At a joint press conference televised by Egypt's state-run Nile TV following the meeting, Abdelatty said Egyptian-Russian relations aim to enhance regional security, stability, and development.
Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov told the press conference that the two sides are committed to further strengthening their "friendly and multifaceted relations" and building up bilateral cooperation in trade and economy.
Both sides discussed in the meeting "new promising projects aimed, in particular, at creating sustainable food and fuel supply chains, including for African countries," Lavrov said, noting that the two sides are also "preparing to expand direct flights" between Russia and Egyptian resorts.
Concerning regional and global affairs, Lavrov said both sides agreed to "step up bilateral foreign policy coordination, primarily at the UN and other international venues." Enditem
