Built by the Germans, Qingdao German Prison Site Museum?(青島德國監(jiān)獄舊址博物館)?is a castle-style prison building. It covers 8,220 square meters, of which the building area accounts for 5,022 square meters. The building originally housed non-Chinese prisoners seized by Germany but was later used to incarcerate Chinese prisoners under Japanese rule, as well as Communist party members under Kuomintang rule. The basement recreates Japanese torture cells, complete with original implements and illustrations.
