Young Chinese girls Li Ting and Yuan Meng continue to march forward in the qualifying tournament of the Australian Open. Li, China's Olympic gold medalist in women's doubles, upset Germany's Elena Baltacha 6-2, 6-4 in a second round clash. Her junior teammate Yuan overcame a first set down to oust American Lilia Osterloh 1-6, 6-2 and 6-3. Li will next take on the winner of the match between Mariya Koryttseva and Shiho Hisamatsu, while Yuan plays Bethanie Mattek of the USA. (CRI January 14, 2006) |
