Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina beat five-times defending champion Roger Federer 3-6, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-2 to take the title of the U.S. Open on Monday.

Del Potro is the first South American winner of the U.S. Open since another Argentine Guillermo Vilas in 1977.
