Obama: US wants Russia strong, peaceful, prosperous
Adjust font size:

The United States wants a "strong, peaceful and prosperous" Russia, and calls for a "reset" for bilateral relations, said visiting U.S. President Barack Obama in Moscow on Tuesday when delivering a speech at a graduation ceremony of New Economic School.

The U.S. president also said the United States has interests in reversing spread of nuclear weapons, urging cooperation on nuclear security, according to live TV broadcast footage.

Obama said the United States is willing to work with international partners, including Russia, to help Pakistan and Afghanistan make their own security prospects.

"That's why I'm pleased with the agreement" reached on Monday allowing the transit of U.S. military cargoes through Russian territory, said Obama.

Obama was on a three-day visit to Russia, the first one since taking office. He has met with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin respectively.
