Mainland Wants to Boost Cross-straits Visits After WHO Lifts Travel Warning: Spokesman

A spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said Wednesday that the mainland will adopt positive measures to promote cross-straits tours following the lifting of travel warnings by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Li Weiyi said at a regular press conference the both sides had imposed restrictions on travel across the Taiwan Straits since the SARS outbreak. The mainland has been removed from the WHO list of SARS affected areas, and Taiwan expected to be removed from the list in the near future.

As the SARS situation has been easing, preventive measures against the disease adopted by the two sides should be canceled, he said.
