Confucius' Idea of Valuing Harmony

Confucius was an ancient Chinese philosopher and educator. The school of Confucianism he founded and the Confucian thoughts developed on this basis have had a profound impact on Chinese civilization and constituted an important part of traditional Chinese culture.

"In conducting the rituals, the principle of harmony is the most valuable." This is a quote from The Analects of Confucius (Lun Yu), and a moral principle championed by the Confucians. It means that the ritual system was adopted to maintain harmonious social relations. The Chinese people have been valuing harmony, which is a basic principle of their philosophy of life.
