A just cause wins support, while an unjust one loses it.

Updated:2022-10-13 | By:The Academy of Contemporary China and World Studies

A just cause wins support, while an unjust one loses it.

This is from The Book of Mencius. The Chinese people have upheld justice since ancient times, and believe that justice determines the fortunes of any war or undertaking. One who upholds justice will not stand alone, but will receive support, foster unity, and achieve ultimate victory, while injustice is doomed to isolation and failure.

At a reception commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and World War II, held in September 2015, Xi Jinping quoted this saying that "A just cause enjoys abundant support, while an unjust one finds little support." Attempting to negate the history of aggression is distorting history as well as insulting human intelligence, and anyone who attempts to do this will end up losing the support of the entire world.
