Jiang Offers Condolences to Earthquake-struck Iran

President Jiang Zemin on Saturday expressed his sorrow for the victims who died in the strong earthquake early Saturday in Iran.

In a letter of condolence to Iranian President Seyyed Mohammad Khatami, Jiang said he was distressed to learn of the earthquake that had killed several hundred.

Jiang said he firmly believes that under the leadership of Khatami, the Iranian people would succeed in overcoming the natural disaster and rebuild their beautiful homeland.
