No Measures Taken to Control Traffic These Days

Beijing took no specific measures to control its traffic flow during the on-going four-day inspection tour by an International Olympic Committee (IOC) evaluation commission for the city's bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games.

When asked by a journalist whether some special measures had been taken to improve the city's traffic conditions these days, Jiang Xiaoyu, vice-president of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bidding Committee (BOBICO) gave a definite negative answer.

"Nothing special," Jiang said. "People went about their work and lives as usual."

The typical traffic flow in Beijing during the rush hours is 10, 000 vehicles per hour while for the normal hours it's 6,000 or 7, 000, Jiang referred to information from the Beijing Traffic Control Bureau.

The traffic flow on Thursday stood 8,000 vehicles per hour. " That's a very usual figure," Jiang said.
