British Experts Praise Beijing's Equestrian Court

Michael Etherington-Smith, an equestrian expert from the United Kingdom, said that the soil in the equestrian sport court in Shunyi is ideal for the horsemanship event.

He made the remarks when he visited the equestrian sport court Wednesday in Shunyi County in northeastern Beijing, near the Capital Airport.

Etherington-Smith also said he believes that Beijing has a bright prospect for hosting the 2008 Games.

Soil with an adequate amount of sand is very important for equestrian events. The British expert said that in Sydney it cost 42 million

Australian dollars to remake the ground. Beijing has no such problem.

Moreover, the venue neighbors a golf course, which also provides good facilities and surroundings.

Etherington-Smith visited the facilities just before the International Equestrian Federation representatives plan to inspect Beijing's bid. He came to give Beijing some advice on preparing for its bid, prior to the inspection.

He told BOBICO officials, "I think the International Equestrian Federation will be satisfied with Beijing's preparation. Beijing will pass the inspection."
