Three Check Lines to Eliminate Polluting Cars

Three emission-checking lines have been set up around the outskirts of Beijing to prevent air-polluting vehicles from entering the capital.

This is part of the continuing efforts taken by the Beijing government to fight air pollution.

A story in the Beijing Morning Post reports on the situation at a checkpoint in Changping District.

Most offending vehicles were coal-carrying trucks from Hebei and Shanxi provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

Beijing traffic departments have notified their counterparts in neighboring regions to warn drivers to check their vehicle's emissions before heading for the capital.

The current campaign to round up air polluting cars began a week ago. So far, 661 such cars have been temporarily detained.
