Zhang was born in Tianzhu, Gansu Province in 1966. He is member of China Photographers Association and Gansu Photographers Association, and chairman of Gansu Modern Photography Association. His works once won the honorable mention and first prize in contests sponsored by Gansu Provincial Audit Office. Also, the Guizhou TV station broadcast his work in the program of "Light and Shadow Resurgence".
