Chinese researchers have made the world's first land map of Antarctica, showing various types of Antarctic terrains, such as blue ice, cracks and water.

The map was created using more than 1,100 satellite images and field surveys and indicates the locations of different land coverings in Antarctica. It will be helpful for climate models predictions and monitoring land surface changes, said Cheng Xiao, a professor at the College of Global Change and Earth System, Beijing Normal University.
