China's stocks closed higher on Thursday, following the dramatic gain of more than 3 percent a day earlier.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.78 percent, or 18.79 points, to close at 2,438.79 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.54 percent, or 55.91 points, to finish at 10,481.84.
