Chinese shares closed lower at midday Friday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down 1.88 percent to 2,633.52.

The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 1.65 percent to 11,737.84.

The shares tracked the 512.76-point drop of the Dow Jones industrial average index Thursday to open 2.38 percent lower on Friday morning.
