Zhu Min to assume duties as IMF deputy director

Min Zhu, former People's Bank of China deputy governor, will take up his post next week as deputy director of the International Monetary Fund, a spokesman for the fund said Thursday.
Christine Lagarde, the new director of the IMF, proposed the appointment of Zhu Min to as deputy director last Tuesday, adding a new fourth deputy director position.
On the same day, Lagarde also nominated David Lipton, a former advisor to President Barack Obama, as her number two at the fund. He will succeed John Lipsky, whose term ends on Aug. 31. Lipton will also start work at the fund next week.
"Min Zhu brings a wealth of experience in government, international policy making and financial markets, strong managerial and communication skills as well as an institutional understanding of the fund, and I look forward to his counsel," Lagarde said.
The nominations have been widely interpreted by analysts as rewards for U.S. and Chinese support of her candidacy over Mexican central bank chief Agustin Carstens.
