Chinese shares declined sharply on Thursday after an overnight slump in the U.S. market weighed on market sentiment.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipped 1.4 percent, or 38.39 points, to 2705.18 points. The Shenzhen Component Index dived 1.65 percent, or 193.31 points, to 11,506.52.
