London stock market rose in opening on Monday, with the leading FTSE 100 index up 12 points, or 0.2 percent, to 5,757 in early trading.

Vodafone was one of the biggest early risers on the main British share index.

The price of mining stocks also advanced, with Xstrata up 2.6 percent and rival Antofagasta adding 1 percent.
