Chinese equities climbed higher on midday Thursday, following the strong gains on the Wall Street overnight.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index pushed up 1.6 percent, or 45.04 points, to 2,868.49 in the morning session. The Shenzhen Component Index rose 1.83 percent, or 224.8 points, to close the morning session at 12,535.19.
