Beijing has unveiled 10 travel routes centered on the trend of brewing tea over open fires, a push to offer warmer winter activities alongside the city's traditional ice and snow attractions.
The "Fireside Tea, Vibrant Life" initiative, announced Wednesday by the Beijing Municipal Culture and Tourism Bureau, pairs historical landmarks with modern leisure. These curated paths are designed to blend Beijing's rich historical culture with modern leisure, guiding visitors through traditional hutongs, lakeside parks, cultural hubs and rustic ancient towns. The goal is to offer a cozy, "slow life" alternative to the city's outdoor winter sports.
The bureau also designated 30 sites as "2025 Beijing Trending Hotspots," selected from more than 200 candidates following a multi-departmental review.
The locations span several categories, including culture and art, leisure, natural sites, fitness spots, dining and retail, the night economy, and accommodation.
To meet rising demand for local getaways, officials introduced eight new "Beijing Micro-Vacation" destinations. These designated areas offer residents staycation options that combine retail, dining, and sightseeing on the city's outskirts.
Bureau officials said the initiative aims to build a "brand matrix" that integrates culture into daily urban life, showcasing Beijing's dual identity as an ancient capital and a modern metropolis.
