Beijing will launch a wide range of New Year celebration events to foster a festive atmosphere and promote consumption, lasting from Dec. 21 through Jan. 3, 2026.

The highlight of the celebrations will be a synchronized bell and drum countdown event on New Year's Eve. The iconic Yongle Bell at Dazhong Temple will be rung in coordination with a drum performance at the Juyongguan Great Wall. The event will be broadcast live on TV and online, with major commercial districts and scenic spots joining via video link.

Cultural and commercial activities will run throughout the holiday period. On New Year's Eve, 26 museums, including the Capital Museum, will host night tours, while nearly 100 cinemas will extend operating hours for countdown screenings. Over 30 major shopping districts will also extend business hours, hosting parties and music festivals.

Sports activities, concerts and exhibitions will offer even more diverse options. The city will host ice and snow sports events and entertainment activities, and introduce 10 ice and snow tourism routes.

Over 200 New Year concerts and shows will be held, alongside the 10th Beijing International Art Biennale, which features nearly 600 works from 119 countries. In addition, a home gardening carnival event will bring together over 400 flower shops and 100 parks across the city to promote flower exhibitions and sales.

Additionally, a dedicated WeChat mini-program will launch in late December to provide comprehensive information on the celebrations. Residents can use the digital platform to simulate ringing the New Year bell on New Year's Eve and get discounts and coupons for tickets, dining, and shopping at participating malls, museums, and flower markets.
